Wines and Sakes

The ideal for raw fish are soft and refreshing drinks. Keep in mind that the sushi pieces will be accompanied by a little wasabi, so you can't choose an overly sweet drink, otherwise the flavor will be dulled. So, what is the best drink for sushi?

White wine at Monster Sushi

White wine is ideal to accompany fish, and the same goes for sushi. The best pairing for sushi is usually white wines, however not all of them comply. A white wine to accompany sushi must have these three essential characteristics: It must be fresh, fruity and aromatic. Other good options are rosé and sparkling wines, which provide a wide range of nuances. These are Monster Sushi's white wines to accompany sushi:

  • Bitácora, a Verdejo white wine from Rueda.
  • Bestué White, Sotomontano Chardonnay.
  • José Pariente, Verdejo Rueda.
  • Lleponia, Garnatxa blanca and Sauvignon blanc - Terra Alta.
  • The trout, Albariño White Wine from Rías Baixas.
  • Zutanita, rosé wine from Castilla.
  • Lía Rosé, rosé wine Ribera del Duero.

Red wine at Monster Sushi

Undoubtedly, white wine is the best drink to accompany sushi containing raw fish. However, some people prefer a red wine. The theory of pairing, after all, is just that: a theory. Nothing is set in stone when it comes to taste.

Fresh, fruity red varieties with low tannin concentration are excellent with fish. Choosing a wine that is too strong or with a very powerful flavour could make the dish lose intensity.

So, if you're more of a red wine person, we have the best drink to go with sushi:

  • Canta Mañanas, tempranillo red wine from Ribera del Duero.
  • Luis Cañas, Rioja red wine.

Sake

If you want to enjoy a complete experience, we recommend you try our sakes:

  • Sake Yamada Nishiki: refreshing and full-bodied.
  • Sake Sayuri: creamy, smooth and silky.
